Home Building And Remodeling Trends For 2015
Not all home building trends are a good idea; do you remember the avocado-colored appliance craze, the pink tile trend, and the carpet on the walls phenomenon? If you're guilty of following those trends, don't allow this misjudgment to prevent you from latching on to the best trends of 2015. Below, we look at some home building and remodeling trends to follow, as recommended by experts in the field.
In the Kitchen
It seems as if people are moving away from stainless steel appliances because of how easily they show fingerprints. Experts recommend you don't stray too far away from the tried-and-trusted approach, however. For instance, concrete counter tops seem like a cool new trend but have a tendency to stain or even break.
The main kitchen remodeling trend appears to be clean lines in light fixtures and cabinetry. There is also a move towards larger tiles in the kitchen (and bathroom), with luxury vinyl appearing to be the material of choice because it looks like ceramic but at a fraction of the cost.
In the Bathroom
For 2015, it seems as if it's all about larger showers, with walk-in showers an especially popular request. The modern consumer wants more tile in the bathroom and is looking to have a tub and a walk-in shower. Overall, it appears people are willing to spend more and more to develop elaborate bathrooms, and in terms of finishing and coloring, cool colors like blue and green are very much in demand.
Remodeling Trends
Remodeling projects are getting bigger, and while people still try to remain cautious, the price range for a bathroom remodel seems to be growing from $15,000 to $25,000. The modern homeowner has also experienced a shift in mentality and is now seeking projects that allow the home to function properly as opposed to being merely aesthetically pleasing. Remodeling projects are also being performed with a sale in mind, as some homeowners look to capitalize on a recovering housing market.
Living Space
In the modern era, homeowners want more living space and are prepared to pay for the privilege. The "keeping room" is a relatively new concept and is set to increase in popularity in 2015. It is essentially a small room just off the kitchen where children can play with their toys or study.
The quest for larger closets seems to be a never-ending one and will continue in 2015, as bedroom space will be sacrificed for more closet space. Additions will be extremely popular in high-value properties, and homeowners are now willing to add an entire extra story to their homes. On a 1,000-square-foot home, this can run up to $250,000.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that bigger is better for homeowners, and this trend will continue apace in 2015. People are becoming more attached to their properties than before, and rather than seeking a new home, they are willing to spend big to convert their existing house into a dream home. Even those who do want to sell up are content to invest in order to get a great price.
